SV Young Scholars AI Workshops & Hackathon | June 7–8, 2025 Recap

90+ students from high school to graduate level and young professionals came together for a weekend of hands-on learning, boundary-pushing ideas, and real-world impact. Participants tackled global challenges through real-time AI model building and human-centered design.

 

The judges panel consisted of experts from meta, google, IEEE, Dropbox and the entrepreneur community. Winning projects included SenseSight, SpeechFlow, AI-based diet recommendations, bug bite recognition, cloud infrastructure innovations, etc. 

The featured talks included computational bioethics lab by Young Scholars Claire Xu, Charly Petty, Elizabeth Ren, accelerated Python with GPU by Nvidia Solution Architect Zoe Ryan, mentorship talks by IEEE region 6 education activity chair Mostafa Mortezaie, IEEE SCV section chair Avery Lu, SFBay ACM chair Ronald Petty, rapid app creation by MIT-App Inventor ambassador Tony Huang and his team, pathway to success by achieving college student Sophia Lu, director of DigiKey global academic program Y.C. Wang, and co-founder and CEO of Labsland Pablo Orduña.

“Seeing students not only build AI tools, but also ask the right ethical questions, that’s real innovation, and this happened within a collaborative community,” shared by Claire Xu, the event chair from the Harker School.
