Writing Your Way into Graduate School in Your First Year

February 12 @ 12:30 am - 2:00 am

A workshop series designed to help you cultivate your writing practice. This series includes three individual sessions. While students are encouraged to attend all three, you are welcome to join as many sessions as you can.
Program Description
Session 1: Tues., Feb. 4 – Mining Your Language or Cultural Autobiography | 4:30-6pm
In this first workshop in the series, you will explore that experience through reflection first in writing and then in discussion with other workshop participants. The goal is to consider the rich linguistic resources already providing a foundation for your writing life and how you might draw upon and expand the ways you’ve lived and learned with language as you write your way into graduate school.
Session 2: Tues., Feb. 11 – Exploring Writing Processes and Models | 4:30-6pm
In this second workshop, you will reflect on your writing process (or processes, as you might approach different kinds of writing in different ways). We will also explore a range of writing process models to expand your available repertoire of options when writing.
Session 3: Tues., Feb. 18 – Planning Your First-Year Writing | 4:30-6pm
This third workshop offers an opportunity to talk about reading, research, and writing assignments you’ve encountered so far in relation to past writing you’ve done and how the assignments call on you to grow as a writer, building on past experiences
Workshops are led by
Zandra L. Jordan, Ph.D., Director, Hume Center for Writing and Speaking, Writing and Rhetoric Operations
Marvin David Diogenes, Associate VP, Director of PWR, Writing and Rhetoric Operations
