WORKSHOP | Unit Operations: Movement Research Workshop

February 9 @ 10:00 pm - February 10 @ 12:00 am

No sign-up is necessary, and each session is self-contained. Come to one, some, or all of the sessions!
Do you move around? Do you want to practice new ways of moving around? Come to a Unit Operations: Movement Research Workshop
Daniel Jackson, a PhD student in TAPS, is leading a weekly Movement Research Workshop in preparation for his TAPS Developmental Series project The Unit Operations Here Are Highly Specific. It will be a combination of movement exercises, exploration, and devising movement phrases to be used in Unit Operations. We’ll also watch and discuss some dance films, including Faye Driscoll’s Thank You For Coming: Attendance, some Big Dance Theater videos, and maybe some clowning.
You don’t need any experience as a dancer or professional mover to participate, just an interest in moving around. The kinds of movement we’ll be exploring will fall somewhere between physical theater and dance. We’ll explore ideas of neutrality in movement: slow movements, small movements, empty movements, impossible movements.
Anyone who comes to at least one full session and moves around will be credited as a choreographer on Unit Operations. Importantly, participating in the movement workshop doesn’t mean you’ll be cast in Unit Operations, but it also doesn’t require any time commitment beyond the time you choose to spend in the workshop.

Arrival Info: Use the back entrances to the building, from Memorial Way. Prosser Studio is upstairs. Need ADA access? Please email dnjack@stanford.edu in advance.
